Jackie Robinson was born January
31, 1919. When Jackie was young his favorite thing was baseball.
He would spend most of his time throwing rocks. When Jackie was older he
went to college. He could play any sport he wanted to play so he
chose baseball. He joined the Negro Leagues. He had little
money and he barely was paid. Also, he would not be allowed in restauraunts
or hotels.
In 1945 Jackie Robinson got
his big break. He was signed to play for the Brooklyn Dodgers.
He was be the first black person to play in the Major Leagues. When
he played people yelled at him, but he got paid well. He was given
35,000 dollars a month, the highest in Dodger history. Jackie died October
24, 1972. When he was 53 years old.
The reason Jackie Robinson is important is that if it wasn't for him, there might of been no African American people to play in the Major Leagues.
